  1. Introduction

Mission

A Web3 network bridging Web2 companies through charity.

Our vision is to create a movement that brings crypto-native dog lovers together to fight for a change while also providing an interactive and immersive ecosystem that benefits the members themselves.

The Problem

Dog Abuse

Dogs are supposed to be man’s best friend, yet somehow they represent approximately 65% of all abused animals worldwide.

Corgi Crew was created to help end dog abuse, neglect, and homelessness. Global dog abuse statistics are difficult to quantify, as the vast majority of cases go unreported. However, there are some available estimates:

  1. The World Animal Protection estimates that over 10 million dogs are abused worldwide each year.

  2. In the United States, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates that up to 1 million dogs are abused each year.

  3. A study conducted in the UK found that nearly 1 in 5 people had witnessed dog abuse in the past year.

  4. In India, an estimated 30 million stray dogs are subject to abuse, while in China, the Humane Society International estimates that 10 million dogs are killed for their meat each year.

Web2 Charities

Limited Engagement

While sending donation checks to 501(c)3 organizations is still a viable way to support them, there are now other ways to donate that can be more convenient and efficient. Many organizations now accept online donations through their websites, and there are a variety of third-party services like PayPal and GoFundMe that allow donors to send donations quickly and securely.

While this still makes you feel good about supporting a cause, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of continued engagement, recognition, community, and “rewards”.

Lack of Visibility

The trend of supporting charities became fashionable in the early 2000s when celebrities began to publicly advocate for different causes. This trend was amplified by the rise of social media, which made it easier for celebrities to spread awareness about their favorite charities.

Remember those bright yellow LIVESTRONG bracelets? These logos became easy ways to show the world you cared about a certain cause.

However, today there is still a lack of “rewards” that offer high visibility. When donors give to a charity, their contribution is typically only recognized with a “thank you” note and the opportunity to have their names listed on a plaque. This is proof, but it lacks the engagement and community that people yearn for.

Limited Reach

While in-person donor dinners may be antiquated–call it “Web1” charitable giving–virtual networks of connected supporters via Facebook groups and other online forums still lack scalability. They’re difficult to manage and onboard new members into, especially the youth.

Transparency

Charities can be corrupted due to a lack of oversight, poor management, and fraudulent activities. Poor management can lead to funds being misused or diverted to other areas, or to the charity's leaders using funds for personal gain. Fraudulent activities can siphon money away from the charity. Without sufficient oversight, charities can be used as a cover for illegal activities.

The Solution

Initially, the goal is to bring together a community of crypto-literate dog owners to raise awareness and funds for dog shelters. Long term, we envision building a network of charities and Web3 industry members that help fund meaningful initiatives, while providing lots of fun, tangible utility and incentives to Corgi Crew holders.

In our view, one of the next “markets” to be disrupted—or “upgraded”—will be charitable giving through NFTs.

According to a recent report from crypto donation platform The Giving Block, nonprofits using The Giving Block received more than $12.3 million dollars in cryptocurrency donations from NFT-related charitable giving initiatives in 2021.

Contrast $12.3m with estimates that suggest that global donations totaled over $400 billion in 2020. The most popular crypto donation platform owns a mere 0.003% of the total charity market!

While these methods are still new, NFT projects for philanthropy have been met with some success, and charities and non-profit organizations are slowly moving into the NFT space. Why?

  1. Better reach

  2. Better engagement

  3. Better visibility

  4. More transparency
